 TREE CARE TIPS

White Pine

White pines are noted for holding their needles well, even long after being harvested. They also are well suited for people with allergies, as they give little to no aroma. The branches are also widely used in making holiday wreaths and garland. The needles are soft and feathery  

Douglas Fir

We have acres of the perfect Douglas Fir to choose from. All the rain this year has led to beautiful color and size. Douglas Fir is a popular choice for the Christmas Tree partly due to their natural conical shape. The shiny needles are short and soft with a sweet scent that lasts the Christmas Season.  

Canaan and Concolor Fir

The Canaan is very unique in that is shares the best characteristics of the Fraser Fir and the Balsam Fir. The appearance closely resembles a Fraser Fir. The needles are short, soft, and rounded with a dark green topside and a silver accent underneath. The Canaan is a slightly tapered, but full tree. The branches are thick and sturdy, but still leave enough room to hang ornaments and lights closer to the center of the tree. The fragrance of the Canaan is what makes it a popular choice. The Canaan has the same wonderful fragrance as the Balsam Fir. The Balsam Fir scent is what we call the “smell of Christmas."

 The concolor fir has long, soft needles with generally excellent needle retention. This tree is known for its bright citrus-like scent. It also has strong sturdy branches for hanging lights and ornaments

Blue and Norway Spruce

Blue Spruce has a nice pyramidal shape with strong limbs that can hold heavy ornaments. The Blue Spruce is known for its lovely blue foliage which can also appear silvery. The needles are stiff and can be prickly.  

 The Norway Spruce is a beautiful dark green tree but does not hold its needles well they are kept properly watered. Its strong branches are able to hold up heavy ornaments and lights. We do not recommend cutting a Norway Spruce early in the season.
